I have taught the following sections in previous years. In accordance
with iniversity policies, papers from previous classes are held for a
full year, and any previous students who want to pick up papers can do
so during any of my regularly scheduled office hours, or by
appointment.
Please note that links to course materials below are to retired
websites which are not under my control. I will try to clean this list
up each quarter, but some of these links may nonetheless end up
broken, or pointing to the sites for different classes.
These are some good investigatory links for students or anyone
interested in further delving into mathematics:
- Budapest
Semesters in Mathematics is, in my opinion, the finest study
abroad program in mathematics out there. If you're interested in
mathematics or Hungary, or better yet both, it's definitely worth
applying.
- The Mathematical Association of
America is a American professional-mathematician society, with an
emphasis on the pedagogical, outreach, and training aspects of
mathematics. They run a great many wonderful programs targetted at
budding mathematicians from junior high school through junior
faculty.
- MathWorld is a pretty
good encyclopediac reference. It's run by Wolfram, so it's kind of
Mathematicaesque.
- The Online
Encyclopedia of Integer Sequences is an invaluable resource if you
care even the slightest bit about lists of numbers. If you ever need
to find a pattern for integers, or integers matching a pattern, this is
your resource. It's got Catalan
numbers. It's got numerators
in the Taylor series of tan(x). It's got the number
of strongly connected tournaments on n nodes. It's even got the lyrics
to the Boards of Canada song "Aquarius".
- The Art of Problem
Solving is not only a wonderful book, but also a useful online
resource for anyone, especially high-school students, interested in
problem-solving. AoPS is also responsible for the San
Diego Math Circle, which is a great opportunity for students in
the San Diego area to learn and practice problem-solving skills.
