Subject: MATH20C_S113_Bowers: Math 20C Midterm 1 Date: July 9, 2013 10:50:40 PM PDT Dear class, I want to make sure everyone knows that tomorrow I and both TAs have office hours before class. You can find office hours here: http://math.ucsd.edu/~abowers/20css1/index.html The midterm exam will be 50 minutes long. It will be the first half of class. After that, we will spend the second half of class discussing 13.5 on motion in three dimensional space. The midterm covers material from the first week of class only. You can find all the information about the exam on the class webpage here: http://math.ucsd.edu/~abowers/20css1/exams.html You *do not* need a Blue Book. The exam is four pages long and there is one problem on each page. You may use a calculator, but no notes and no electronic devices that allow any kind of communication or internet browsing. Have a good night and see you tomorrow! Sincerely, Ol' Doc Bowers

Subject: Math 20C Summer Session One Date: June 30, 2013 3:19:41 PM PDT Dear Class, As you probably know, we are starting Math 20C on Monday, July 1. I want to direct you to the course website, which can be found here: http://www.math.ucsd.edu/~abowers/20css1/index.html There are a few things I wish to discuss in this email. All of this information can be found on the class webpage, but I feel it will be useful to address some items directly. **Item 1: Online Homework. We will be using an online homework system called WebWork. This system is open source, which means it will not cost you anything. You will not be able to log into the WebWork system until the first day of classes. You get *UNLIMITED ATTEMPTS* to do each problem until the due date. Once the due date is reached, however, solutions to the online homework problems will be made available, so no homework will be accepted late. **Item 2: Paper-and-Pen Homework. I will assign homework out of the textbook, but this will not be collected or graded. It is intended only to serve as a guide for your studies. Solutions to these homework problems will be made available at some point. (Probably via the course Piazza page.) **Item 3: Midterm Exams. We will have THREE midterm exams. (Please see the calendar.) These exams will be in-class and should take around 50 minutes each. You are allowed to use a calculator, but you will not be allowed to use any notes. Each exam is worth 15 percent of your total course grade. **Item 4: Final Exam. The final exam will be on the Friday of Week 5. (Please see calendar.) You may use a calculator. You will also be allowed one page of handwritten notes for the final exam. (Both sides are okay.) **Item 5: Course Calendar. Class will meet Monday, Tuesday, and Wednesday 2 - 4 pm. Discussion Section will meet on Thursday. Please note that there is no discussion section on Thursday, July 4 (week1) and there is no class scheduled for Monday, July 29 (week 5). Sincerely, Adam Bowers (aka @DocBowers)
