Prerequisites: Math 31BH with a grade of B- or better, or consent of instructor.

Course description: Third quarter of honors integrated linear algebra/multivariable calculus sequence for well-prepared students. Topics include: change of variables formula, integration of differential forms, exterior derivative, generalized Stoke's theorem, conservative vector fields, potentials.

Textbook: Vector Calculus, Linear Algebra, and Differential Forms: A Unified Approach, Fourth Edition, by J. H. Hubbard and B. B. Hubbard. The tentative plan is to cover Chapter 4, sections 4.1, 4.5 and 4.9-4.10, Chapter 5, sections 5.1, 5.3, and Chapter 6, sections 6.1-6.10.

Homework: There will be a total of 8 problem sets (one for each week, except for the midterm weeks 4 and 8). You should attempt to complete all of them. Homework will be due certain Fridays by 12:00pm (and should be placed in the drop-box in the basement of APM). No late homework will be accepted. If, for any reason, you cannot turn in a homework assignment, keep in mind that the lowest two scores will be dropped.

Midterm Exams: There will be two in-class midterms: the first on Thursday, April 23rd, and the second on Thursday, May 21st. There will be no make-up exams. If, for any reason, you cannot make it to one of the midterms, you will automatically receive grading option (2).

Final exam: The final exam is scheduled for Tuesday, June 9th, 11:30am-2:30pm. There is no make up final exam. It is your responsibility to make sure that you do not have a conflict for the final exam. If you cannot take the final exam at the scheduled time, you should not enroll in this class.

Grading: Your final score will be calculated as the maximum of the following two schemes:
(1) 20% Homework + 20% First Midterm + 20% Second Midterm + 40% Final Exam
(2) 20% Homework + 20% Best Midterm Exam + 60% Final exam

In addition, you must earn a passing grade on the final examination in order to pass the course.

Regrades: Homework and midterm exams will be returned in the discussion sections. If you wish to have your homework or exam regraded, you must return it immediately to your TA. Regrade requests will not be considered once the homework or exam leaves the room. If you do not retrieve your homework or exam during discussion section, you must arrange to pick it up from your TA within one week after it was returned in order for any regrade request to be considered.
