The goals of the chapter are the following:


  • Fostering a sense of community among graduate students and the department
  • Encouraging professional and social networking between females in the department
  • Highlighting the presence of successful women in mathematics
  • Mentoring undergraduate math majors, especially women
  • Encouraging participation in research activities such as seminars and conferences
  • Performing outreach activities for students in grades 4-12

  • We are started planning our events for the 2011-2012 academic year. If you would like to get involved with the chapter, please email awm "at" math.ucsd.edu for information on how you can help.
  • Lunch Meetings are held every Thursday at noon in the conference room of the UCSD Women's Center (located in the old student center).

  • Our booth proposal for the San Diego Science Festival was accepted!! Let us know if you are interested in helping out. We will be presenting on the Travelling Salesman Problem and fractals.
  • Katie will be presenting a poster at the JMM in Boston on our chapter. Please stop by the poster session if you are at the meetings!
  • Thanks to Kristin Lauter for hosting a reception at her house after the UCSD/MSI colloquium!
  • We held our third annual Women in Math Luncheon on Oct 27. Thanks to everyone who came out!
  • Thanks to our awesome panelists at the "Applying for NSF GRFP" workshop on Oct 25.
  • There was an ice cream social the week 17 October 2011. Stay tuned for our Winter quarter social event!
