11/10/07:
I'm managing two fantasy sports teams on Yahoo Fantasy Sports:
Ricci Flowers football team and Ricci Flowers basketball team.
For the football team I was lucky enough to get Tom Brady. But I haven't spent time managing the team. Last week I lost to the team who has Randy Moss. So I was rooting for Tom Brady to throw touchdowns, but not with Randy Moss catching them. New England is doing great so far, 9-0. But last week against the Colts they struggled until they came back in the 4th quarter, scoring two touchdowns after being down by 10 points. The Patriots beat Indianapolis 24-20.
So far the Ricci Flowere football team is 5-4. In fantasy football
the teams play head to head.
Luckily, in real life,
the Green Bay Packers are doing well this year, at midseason
they are 7-1. This has been surprising since some people have
been wondering if Brett Favre should retire. He's the career
leader in several categories for quarterbacks including
touchdowns and consecutive games played. He also joined
Brady and Manning as quarterbacks to beat every team in the
leagure. But Favre is also has the record for most interceptions
thrown.
I'm actively managing the basketball team (on Yahoo Public 187695). My autodraft picks included: Kevin Garnett and Paul Pierce. Too bad I couldn't get Ray Allen. But I really want to trade for Richard Hamilton. The other player I want is Yao. Coincidentally, a guy named Tian is managing a team in my league (he's got Yao (yes, really) and I don't think he wants to give him up). I got Yi Jianlian on waivers who was drafted by the Milwaukee Bucks this year. Yi didn't want to play for the Bucks but he seems happy playing for the Ricci Flowers. Last night Milwaukee played against Houston. Both Yi and Yao did well. The game was televised in China.
Other players I picked up on waivers are Grant Hill and Jose Calderon (too bad there isn't a Zygmund in the league). Calderon won't be in my line-up until tomorrow 11/11/07. My point guards have had injury problems (Raymond Felton and my former player, Randy Foye, with knee problems). That brings me to the other player I want to get: Steve (not John) Nash.
I also tried to get John Salmons on waivers, but the Vancouver Grizzlies picked him up.
I sent this email to the Jammers team manager:
Would you be interested in a trade involving Richard Hamilton?
I would be willing to consider/negotiate a deal which does not
involve Garnett or Pierce.
I'm wondering how he will respond. He's got Barbosa (point guard for the Phoenix Suns) and Ricky Davis and Stephon Jackson as shooting guards/small forwards and he has Baron Davis and Devin Harris as point guards.
11/12/07:
Tian still hasn't responded about trading Yao.
The Jammers team manager made the trade proposal: Richard Hamilton and Shaq for Andre Iguodala(SG/SF) and Chris Kaman(C). I countered with the trade proposal of Mike Miller(SG/SF) for Richard Hamilton. Chris Kaman (who plays for the Clippers) has 18.4ppg and 14.6reb in 5 games and Andre Iguodala has 21.2 ppg 6.8reb and 4.0ast and 2.4st.
I'm wondering how Grant Hill will do, I picked him up on waivers. He's a great person, but he's toward the end of his career. He went to Phoenix (I believe with a low salary) so that he would have a chance to win a championship. He has had good minutes this year, 34:17 avg in 7 games and FT pct of 80.8% and avg more rebounds, 5.6, than the last couple of years but below his career avg of 6.9. However his FG pct is way down: 36.4% (compared to a career avg of 28.1 and his last two years of 49.0 and 51.8). I guess when he gets used to Phoenix's system, he'll be okay.
I just picked up Martell Webster (Portland - SG,SF) who is a 3rd year player and seems like he is getting more minutes. He was the Trailblazers 6th pick in the first round in 2005. He's doing well shooting 3 pointers so far this season.
In fantasy basketball the scoring is rotisserie. We don't play head to head but rather score points based on how we rank in various categories such as points, assists, rebounds, etc. At the moment I am 2/12 with 75 pts in my league, up from 5/12.
11/17/07:
I've given up on Yao; Tian still hasn't responded. I'm surprised he
hasn't tried to get Yi.
I've proposed a new trade with the Jammers (what kind of team name
is that?) team manager: Andre Iguodala for Richard Hamilton.
Iguodala has an O-Rank of 21 and an current rank of 71. Rip has
an O-Rank of 76 and a current rank of 70.
Looks like I made some bad moves, like dropping Nick Collison.
The season is still young, but looks like picking up Grant Hill on
waivers was a good idea.
