Bonjour! Ni hao. This is Ben's Chess Blog.

11/17/07:
Here's a blitz chess game I played on ICC today (5 minutes total per side). I was Black. I don't win too many games, but I was lucky in this (as usual, inaccurately played) game.

1. e4 c6 (Caro-Kann Defense. I usually play either this or the Sicilian Defense, although I often play random openings.)
2. d4 d5
3. e5 Bf5
4. Bd3 Bxd3
5. Qxd3 e6
6. Ne2 Nd7
7. O-O Ne7
8. Nd2 a6
9. f4 c5
10. c3 Qb6
11. Kh1 O-O-O
12. Nf3 Nf5
13. Bd2 f6
14. b3 h6
15. c4 Qc6? (This move should lose!)
16. cxd5 Qxd5
17. Rac1 (White still has an advantage after this move, but Crafty-20.14 says: 17. Nc3! winning. Value +2.86 at depth 16.)
17. ... Kb8
18. Nc3 Qc6
19. Ne4? (Missing 19. d5 winning.)
19. ... Qc6
20. g4? Nxd4 (Now Black has the advantage.)
21. Nxd4 cxd4
22. exf6 Nxf6
23. Nxf6 gxf6
24. Qe4 Ba3
25. Rc4 h5? (Crafty says: 25. ... Rhg8.)
26. g5 fxg5 (According to Crafty the position is now equal.)
27. fxg5 Rhf8
28. Rxf8 Rxf8
29. g6 d3 (Although this opens lines, this is an ill-advised pawn sac. But what the hey, this is a blitz game.)
30. Be3 (Crafty suggests 30. Qxd3 (protecting against 30. ... Rf1+) Bb2 (preventing whites g-pawn from advancing) 31. Ba5 with White having an advantage.
30. ... d2
31. Bxd2? (This loses. Crafty says take the Queen: 31. Bxb6 d1=Q+ with equality.)
31. ... Rf1+!
32. Kg2 Qg1+
33. Kh3 Bd6
34. Rc8+ (This rook sacrifice is the only move.)
34. ... Kxc8
35. Qxe6+ Kc7
36. Qc4+ (This loses quickly. But 36. Ba5+ b6 37. Bxb6+ Qxb6 also loses for White).
36. ... Kb8
37. Qe2 Rf3+! (With 16 seconds left on my clock, I took 6 seconds to find this move. This rook sacrifice forces mate in 1.)
38. Qxf3 Qxh2# (With 9.31 seconds left on my clock!)
