MATH 20C: Calculus and Analytic Geometry for Science and Engineering

Course Description Vector geometry, vector functions and their derivatives. Partial differentiation. Maxima and minima. Double integration.
Prerequisites AP Calculus Math BC score of 3, 4, or 5; or Math 20B with a grade C- or better; or equivalent; or consent of instructor.
Textbook Jon Rogawski, Multivariable Calculus - Early Transcendentals, W. H. Freeman and Company, 2008. (Tentatively, we will cover Sections 11.1-11.3, 12.1-12.5, 13.1-13.4, 14.1-14.8, 15.1-15.3, 12.7, 15.4.)

Homework Weekly assigned, collected, and partially graded. There are homework dropboxes in AP&P (6th floor). Unless otherwise announced, homework is due noon, Wednesday of each week. Partially graded homework papers are returned in Tuesday discussion sessions.

Note: no late homework will be accepted unless a written verification of a valid excuse (such as hospitalization, family emergency, religious observance, court appearance, etc.) is provided.
Exams There will be two midterm and one final, close-book and close-note exams. No calculators will be allowed in these exams. The final exam will be cumulative.
    Midterm exam 1: 10:00 am - 10:50 am, Friday, April 24, Pepper Canyon Hall 109.
    Midterm exam 2: 10:00 am - 10:50 am, Friday, May 22, Pepper Canyon Hall 109.
    Final exam: 8:00 am - 10:59 am, Monday, June 8, Pepper Canyon Hall 109.

Note: neither rescheduled nor make-up exams will be allowed unless a written verification of a valid excuse (such as hospitalization, family emergency, religious observance, court appearance, etc.) is provided.
Grading The final course grade will be determined based on the homework and exams with the following weights: homework - 15%, midterm exam 1 - 20%, midterm exam 2 - 20%, and the final exam - 45%.
