COURSE DESCRIPTION

WHAT IS MATH 100C? This is the third undergraduate course in abstract algebra. In this course we will cover: the structure of groups (Chapter 7 in the textbook); Galois theory (Chapter 8 in the textbook); time permitting, arithmetic properties of rings (Chapter 9 in the textbook.)

  Beachy, J. A.  and Blair, W. D.  Abstract Algebra, Third Edition (Waveland Press Inc., 2006). You are expected to read the text BEFORE each lecture.
