Homework and exams:
-
The good news is that there will be no homework. The bad news is that
there will be 8 quizzes (mostly given on Fridays
01/21,01/28,02/04,02/18,02/25,03/03,03/10
in the same time slots as the lectures). The quizzes
will be restricted to problems very similar to
the exercises in the text book.
Quiz solutions will be posted
here in the week after and the sheets will be returned during office hours of
your TAs.
Exercises hints/solutions.
- There is also 1 midterm (02/11)
and 1 final (03/21, 8am for CSE101, and 03/25, 3pm for Math188).
Midterm problems and solutions
Math 188 and
CSE 101.
There will be some delay in returning the midterm because of double checking of the grading.
The final sheet will be available for viewing at 6131 APM, 1-3pm Monday, March 27.
Final solutions
CSE 101 and
Math 188.
Due to space constraints and the obvious difference in the exam dates,
students who signed up for CSE101 will NOT be allowed to take the final for Math188.
-
Coverage and reading: We will cover Chapter 1-6 and selected topics
in Chapter 8 with a
recommended
reading schedule.
- Additional references that are helpful for
understanding recurrence relations, rigorous reasoning, etc.
-
Grading Policy:
- Zero tolerance for cheating.
-
The quiz is 50% (The worst two scores will be discarded for
those students not arguing for extra points). The midterm is 20% and the final is 30%.
-
There are extra 15 BONUS points for
working on bonus problems given in class or on implementation challenges.
(The deadline for turning in your work for bonus points is the last day of
class 03/17. Collaborations are allowed, provided that
at most two people are involved in one project. Both names should appear
on the paper.)
Bonus problems .
-
Lateness Policy: The score will be decreased by 20% for each day late.

-
" I would like
to know personally as many students in this class as possible."
Anyone who asks or answers a question in class will receive an invitation to
"Lunch with the professor at the Faculty Club" as long as the available
slots (60 in five groups) exist.
Such lunches provide opportunities to discuss and debate on various hot issues
confronting the research and technical communities.
-
All requests for exceptions will not be favorably granted.
- A collection of algorithm animations
