Midterm 1 is on Wednesday October 24 at the regular class time, but some students will be assigned to a different room. It will be 45 minutes. Please arrive early to ensure that the exam starts on time and that you get the full time alloted to it.

Material:
The midterm covers the material on homework assignments 1-3 and the lectures and parts of the textbook that go with that. This is Chapters 1.1-1.3, 2.1-2.2, and part of 2.3. For Chapter 2.3, partial derivatives is on Homework 3 and is eligible for Midterm 1. However, computing linear approximations and tangent planes will be on Homework 4 and will be eligible for Midterm 2 instead.

Supplies:
Please bring your student ID card, pencils, erasers, and "cheat sheet"; see details below. We'll supply a test book, so you don't need a blue book or scantron.

Cheat sheet: You may bring one 8.5”×11” page (front and back) of written notes. It must be written by hand by you in pen or pencil; it may not be produced by any other means (computer, photocopying, purchasing pre-made reference cards, etc.).

Pencils: We will be scanning the tests. Please use only black pencils (#2 pencil or darker; HB or B lead for a mechanical pencil). Black or blue ballpoint pens are also OK. Do not use pens that bleed through the paper. Please don't write near the edge of the paper or the stapled corner.

No other resources are permitted. No books, calculators, tablets, phones, or other electronic devices will be allowed during the midterms or the final exam. If you bring your cell phone, pager, or other electronic device, be sure that it is disabled and stashed away.

Assigned seats:
The class will be split into two rooms, and there will be assigned seats. Please watch for an email with your room and seat assignment. If you would like to be assigned a left-handed desk, or if you have any other seat assignment issues, please notify the professor by email or at class by the lecture on Friday October 19.

Practice Exams

Practice midterm 1     Practice midterm 2     Practice final

These practice exams are adapted from past Math 20C exams. They are provided “as is”. They may differ in content, emphasis, form, rules, number of problems and problem parts, points/weighting, etc. from the exams given this term.

The sections covered on these practice exams are close but may not be exactly the same as in this class. The sections covered on each exam in this class will be announced a week prior to the exam.

Additional Math 20C practice exams are posted on Prof. Golsefidy's Math 20C class website. Some are from past Math 20C classes that used a different textbook. The other textbook had some differences in notation and covered the topics in a different order, so topics may have been covered on different exams than this quarter.
