Some links.

Here are a couple of links, mostly related to artists and musicians whose work I admire a lot.

Hung Liu is a Chinese-American artist based in Oakland, CA, whose paintings are often based on historical sources and feature a very characteristic drip technique. She teaches at Mills College.

Bo Bartlett is an American realist painter whose large canvasses I found very impressive, when I saw them at the Santa Barbara Museum of Art a couple of years ago.

Juxtapoz is an art mazagine that features visceral contemporary art. In the Land of Retinal Delights: The Juxtapoz Factor is a great exhibition at the Laguna Art Museum featuring artists whose work reflects a similar artistic philosophy (it ends October 5, 2008).

Gerhard Richter is a very famous German artist. If you look at his stuff, it is pretty obvious why.

LACMA is a great art museum in Los Angeles, I can only recommend visiting it!

Ani DiFranco is a great songwriter from Buffalo, NY.

- A bit more old-school, but still great are Woody Guthrie and Bob Dylan.

- I think my favorite performer is Nina Simone, she was great. I particularly like her albums from the Philips years.

- There is much more music out there that I enjoy, for example Matisyahu, The Mars Volta, and Bitter:Sweet.

Finally, two more personal links:

- Maia Averett is my wife.

- Peter Teichner was my Ph.D. advisor. He is a professor at UC Berkeley.
