About Discussion Sections:

Discussion sections are an opportunity to answer any questions that you have about the course or the homework, and to go over basic concepts in the course that may not be covered in lecture (***). Come in armed with (relevant) questions, and I'll do my best to answer them in the short time that we have. If you have anything you want me to cover during section, please E-mail me with what you want to go over (I might not actually go over it, but it would help me plan). Tentatively, I plan to do homework questions in class, and will likely default to that if there are no questions. The purpose of this discussion section is to help you, the students, so do not be afraid to speak up if there is anything I could do to that end.

(***) NOTE: The things I go over will be consistent with the lecture, because you are not allowed to use information (theorems, definitions, etc) NOT contained in the lecture.

Other Help

Posted Solutions:

I fully expect that there will be problems on the homework that many of you will struggle on. For some subset of these problems, I will post solutions to them online. If there's any problem that you want me to post a solution to, please E-mail me. If enough of you request that I post the solution to a certain problem, I will post it (it will be under the "Solutions" tab in my course webpage).

Computer Lab:

I am in the Computer Lab (AP&M B432) for at least two hours a week to provide any 20F (MATLAB) related help you may need. But besides me, the other TAs and other MATLAB tutors should be available throughout the week to help you should you need help.

There are boxes set up to turn in homework in the basement level of AP&M (take a left out of the elevators and it should be to your left). The boxes should be atthe bottom of dropbox #6, with the course number (math 20F), the professor's name (Guershon Harel), my name (Jor-el Briones), and the section time (2PM). The boxes for the other TAs are also there; Benjamin Ciotti, A02, 3-3:50; Sam Verhaegen, A03, 4-4:50; Jake Postema, A04, 5-5:50. THERE ARE TWO SEPARATE BOXES--ONE IS FOR REGULAR HOMEWORK, AND ONE IS FOR MATLAB HOMEWORK. Please turn in homework into the CORRECT boxes, or hand it in during the section BEFORE it is due. Once homework has been graded and I have them, you may pick up homework during section, during office hours, or whenever I happen to be in my office.

IMPORTANT NOTE: MATLAB homework and regular homework are TWO DIFFERENT things, they are generally due on TWO DIFFERENT DAYS/TIMES, and they are turned into TWO SEPARATE BOXES. If you turn it into the WRONG BOX, you get NO CREDIT for that assignment. Please turn in MATLAB HW into the MATLAB ONLY box, and regular HW into the other box.
