Title:  Advanced Calculus

Credit Hours:  4

Prerequisite:  Math 31CH or Math 109, or consent of instructor

Textbook: Advanced Calculus (Second Edition), by Patrick M. Fitzpatrick; published by American Mathematical Society; copyright 2006

Subject Material:  We shall cover most of chapters 1 - 4 of the text.   A more complete list of the sections covered will be found (as they are added) on the course homework page.

Reading:  It will be expected that you read the assigned material in advance of the class period indicated by the course calendar. The amount of reading is not large in quantity; however, it is heavy in conceptual content.

Homework:  Homework will be assigned on the course homework page and should be completed by the indicated due date.  Your homework grade will be based on the best five (5) of seven (7) homework assignments.

Gradescope: All standard homework assignments are to be submitted via Gradescope.

Midterm Exams:  There will be two midterm exams given during the lecture hour on Wednesday of the fourth and eighth weeks;  see the course calendar for the dates of the midterm exams.  Note that the second midterm is scheduled on the Wednesday before the Thanksgiving Holiday:  Plan accordingly.   There will be no makeup exams.  You may bring one 8.5 by 11 inch handwritten sheet of notes with you to the each midterm exam.

Final Examination:  The final examination will be held at the date and time stated in the course calendar and Schedule of Classes.

Regrade Policy:  Your exams (and homework) will be graded using Gradescope.  You will be able to request a regrade directly from your TA for a specified window of time.  Be sure to make your request within the specified window of time; no regrade requests will be accepted after the deadline.

Grading: Your course grade will be based on the better of the following two (2) weighted averages. Note that the homework grade will be based on your best five (5) of seven (7) assignments.

In addition, you must earn a passing grade on the final examination in order to pass the course.
