UCSD Symplectic Topology seminar, Spring 2003

Math 216, Spring 2003, Tuesdays 11:00-12:30 in room 7218.

Organisers: Justin Roberts, Peter Teichner

This term we hope to follow the plan we didn't follow last term: namely, to try to learn something about symplectic topology from the point of view of pseudo-holomorphic curves. We intend to start by reading some parts of the book "J-holomorphic curves and quantum cohomology" by McDuff and Salamon, and to proceed to the sections about Floer homology and Gromov-Witten invariants.

April 8: Peter Teichner Introduction

April 15: Jana Comstock Linear symplectic geometry

April 22: Li Yu Symplectic and Kaehler manifolds

April 29: Justin Roberts Hamiltonian mechanics

May 6: Henning Hohnhold Moduli spaces of Riemann surfaces

May 13: Shelly Harvey J-holomorphic curves

May 23 (Fri, 4pm): Anna Grinberg Gromov-Witten invariants

June 3: Justin Roberts Gromov-Witten invariants II

June 10: Tom Fleming (10am) Infinite-dimensional Morse theory
June 10: Peter Teichner (11am) Floer homology
