  • We'll be having a movie night ninth week, and we're looking for suggestions about what movies we can watch. Currently we are trying to choose between Pi, Flatland, and Between the Folds. If you have ideas for other movies you'd like to see, be sure to let us know! You can email Leilani at lgilpin@ucsd.edu with your suggestions.
  • Putnam Practice Sessions (Continued)

  • The William Lowell Putnam Mathematical Competition is the preeminent mathematics competition for undergraduates in North America. The Math Club is planning to organize regular practice sessions to try to prepare for the exam. The sessions will be laid-back and we will focus on just enjoying the challenge provided by the problems. If you would be interested, please email Sunny at sagrawal@ucsd.edu with your name. Once we have a list of interested students, we will schedule a time and place to hold the practice sessions.
  • Joint Mathematics Meeting

  • The Math Club has decided to attend the Joint Mathematics Meetings in San Francisco on January 13-16 at the Moscone West Convention Center. This is a great opportunity of you are interested in going to graduate school in mathematics: there is a session about choosing graduate schools, an Undergraduate Poster Session, and a Grad School Fair. We are required to register very soon, so please contact Leilani at lgilpin@ucsd.edu as soon as possible if you are at all interested.
  • Project Euler

  • Project Euler is a series of mathematical problems that require computers to solve. If you are interested, meetings are held Mondays at 18:00 in CSE B225 by UCSD's Computer Science and Engineering Society (CSES). Please contact Leilani at lgilpin@ucsd.edu for more information.

  • The Math Club website has been redesigned! We are still working to finalize a few parts of it as well as add some new features, but we would love to hear what you think.

  • Pi (-0.02) Day

  • We'll be celebrating Pi (-0.02) Day this year on 12 March! We're planning on having a pie baking event in conjunction with the Association for Women in Mathematics, as well as a Pie a Professor event. Look out for more information as we get closer!
  • Pacific Coast Undergraduate Conference

  • The Pacific Coast Undergraduate Math Conference is a conference for undergraduate research in mathematics. Since it is intended for undergraduates, the talks are all very accessible. Registration is free and lunch is provided. The keynote speaker at the conference is Tony DeRose, head of the Research Group at Pixar Animation.   • San Diego Science Festival
