- As you may have
noticed, the lectures on the Math 20C material are mostly reminders of the
material-- we obviously don't have time to cover it in detail. Here is the
official department Math
20C syllabus.
- In 1.5, don't worry
about the Cauchy Schwartz inequality and the triangle inequality on pp.
76-77. Although these are very important, they are not central to the course
and we will have to skip them in the interest of saving time.
- You will have to go
over the material on spherical and cylindrical coordinates in 1.4 on your
own. This is straight from the 20C syllabus (see link above) and should be
review for you. Instead, we will focus on section 1.5 which will be central
to many concepts we'll study this quarter.
- OASIS workshop for
this class MW 2-4.
- Recommended Review
Exercises (includes material covered in Midterm 1:
Chapter 1: all but 11, 13, 27, 29, 31, 35-38, 40, 41.
Chapter 2: all but 1b, 2c, 4, 11, 14, 23, 26, 27, 39.
Chapter 3: 4
Chapter 4: all but 8, 12, 33-37
Chapter 5: all problems
Chapter 6: 1-10 (except for 4), 12, 13, 15, 16, 17, 22
Chapter 7: 1-6
- The second midterm
will take place on Monday, May 19 at noon. The midterm will
be closed book and closed notes, but you will be given the same formula
sheet that you got for Midterm 1 and an additional
formula
sheet. Note that the sheets contains some formulas that we haven't
studied yet. Clearly, you will not need all the formulas on these sheets.
You can find more details about the exam here.
- People with LAST
NAMES starting with the letter A-K will take the midterm in CSB 001
- People with LAST
NAMES starting with the letter L-Z will take the midterm in Ledden.
