Teaching
Working with students is an important aspect of my mathematical life.
I believe mathematics is an essential part of any education, providing
general life skills, more specific technical training, and the ability
to think and reason in a rigorous manner. Moreover, teaching and
mentoring is how the mathematical community perpetuates itself and
prepares future generations of mathematicians.
Below is information about my present and past courses.

Other Resources for Students
- The Math department runs a
calculus tutoring lab which is staffed most of the time by TAs and/or
tutors, who can help you with your calculus questions.
- Many calculus courses are now using UCSD's Calculus Online Community,
a very useful way for students to communicate outside of class. The
site includes a discussion forum and chat rooms for talking about
homework or lecture material, and a page to help you find study
partners. I highly recommend it.
- The department maintains a
private tutor list of people who offer their math tutoring
services for money. This is always an option. Note: This is
not to be considered a personal endorsement (or dis-endorsement) of
anyone on the list; many of them I have never met.
- Some tips for checking your work in
calculus, rather than depending on a solution manual.
I have written a teaching statement
(PDF) expressing my thoughts on effective teaching.
