You may bring to the exam one double-sided sheet (8 in x 11 in) of notes handwritten by yourself.

Homework will not be collected; your homework will be evaluated
by your performance on periodic quizzes.

There will be a total of 5 quizzes given.
See the course calendar for the dates of the quizzes.
Each quiz will consist of two problems, one taken directly from the suggested homework,
and one very similar to a suggested homework problem.
You will be allowed 10 - 20 minutes to complete each quiz. Your cumulative quiz grade will be based on the
best 4 of your quiz scores. No notes or books will be allowed during the
quizzes. There will be no makeup quizzes.
- Academic Dishonesty:
Academic dishonesty is considered a serious offense at UCSD.
Students caught cheating will face an administrative sanction which may include suspension or expulsion from the university.

corresponding to a given percentage will not be lower than specified by the above scale.
Your cumulative average will be the best of the following two weighted averages.
- 15% Quizzes,  20% Midterm Exam I,  20% Midterm Exam II,  45% Final Exam
- 15% Quizzes,  20% Best Midterm,  65% Final Exam
In addition,
you must pass the final examination in order to pass the course. Note: Since there are no makeup exams, if you miss an exam for any reason then your course grade
will be computed with the final exam counting 65% of your weighted average.
- Lecture:
Attending the lecture is a fundamental part of the course; you are
responsible for material presented in the lecture whether or not it is discussed in the
textbook. You should expect questions on the exams that will test your understanding of
concepts discussed in the lecture. Please make sure your cell phone is turned off and put away
during lecture.
- Reading:
Reading the sections of the textbook corresponding to the assigned
homework exercises is considered part of the homework assignment; you are responsible for material
in the assigned reading whether or not it is discussed in the lecture.
