There will usually be at least 2 tutors and/or TAs available to help with homework, calculators, and coursework. We strongly recommend that you make use of the Calculus Tutoring Lab. Course Policies E-mail: Please begin the Subject of all e-mail messages you send to your instructor with "Math 10C." Calculators: Calculators are not needed for this course. No calculators are allowed for quizzes or exams. Midterm Exams: There will be 2 midterm exams given during the usual lecture time and place. See the course calendar for the dates of the midterm exams. There will be no makeup exams. Final Exam: The final examination will be held at: 03/18/2009 W 11:30a - 2:29p, room PCYNH 106 It is your responsibility to ensure that you do not have a scheduling conflict with regard to the final examination. You should not enroll in this class if you cannot sit for the final examination at its scheduled time. Homework: Homework will be suggested during lecture and should be completed by the discussion section in the following week. Homework will not be collected; your homework will be evaluated by your performance on periodic quizzes. Quizzes: There will be a total of 5 quizzes given. See the course calendar for the dates of the quizzes. Each quiz will consist of two problems, one taken directly from the suggested homework, and one very similar to a suggested homework problem. You will be allowed 10 - 20 minutes to complete each quiz. Your cumulative quiz grade will be based on the best 4 of your quiz scores. No notes or books will be allowed during the quizzes. There will be no makeup quizzes. Academic Dishonesty: Academic dishonesty is considered a serious offense at UCSD. Students caught cheating will face an administrative sanction which may include suspension or expulsion from the university. Grading: Your course grade will be determined by your cumulative average at the end of the term and will be based on the following scale: A+ A A- B+ B B- C+ C C- D 97 93 90 87 83 80 77 73 70 60 We may adjust the scale to be more lenient, but we guarantee that the grade corresponding to a given percentage will not be lower than specified by the above scale. Your cumulative average will be the best of the following two weighted averages. 15% Quizzes,  20% Midterm Exam I,  20% Midterm Exam II,  45% Final Exam 15% Quizzes,  20% Best Midterm,  65% Final Exam In addition, you must pass the final examination in order to pass the course. Note: Since there are no makeup exams, if you miss an exam for any reason then your course grade will be computed with the final exam counting 65% of your weighted average. Lecture: Attending the lecture is a fundamental part of the course; you are responsible for material presented in the lecture whether or not it is discussed in the textbook. You should expect questions on the exams that will test your understanding of concepts discussed in the lecture. Please make sure your cell phone is turned off and put away during lecture. Reading: Reading the sections of the textbook corresponding to the assigned homework exercises is considered part of the homework assignment; you are responsible for material in the assigned reading whether or not it is discussed in the lecture.
