Date: Wed, 8 Jan 2003 19:08:53 -0800 From: [Mathematics Department System Administration] 6) Students who wish to print out their assignments using the lab laser printers need to FIRST setup a "real money laser printing account" with ACS BEFORE attempting to print to a lab laser printer. Printing to the lab laser printer costs 5 cents per page. Please have them to go to ACS in AP&M 2113, 10:00 a.m.-3:30 p.m., fill out the laser printing account request form, and deposit a minimum of $10.00 (200 pages) or more via personal check or Triton Plus Card. Be sure to tell them to have the laser account attached to BOTH their personal UCSD account AND their course-specific ma### account. Once their real money laser printing account is setup, they will need to properly login to their course-specific account on the computer they are using in order to have it work correctly. 7) Please note that the CLICS PC lab computers now run Windows XP Professional OS and require TWO separate login sequences for class work. For the first login, students should use their OWN PERSONAL UCSD EMAIL ACCOUNT NAME and PASSWORD. This is ALSO known as their ACS student account or UCSD network username and network password. If the student does not know their UCSD account name, then either: a) Send the student to ACS User Services in AP&M 2113, 2nd floor. b) On the web, go to http://www-acs.ucsd.edu/ -> Students -> Accounts Tools -> Account Lookup Tool -> (Follow the instructions for the "If you do not know your account name:" section). Please note that any password changes or resets can take up to ONE FULL DAY to go into effect. For the second login, students should use their CLASS ACCOUNT NAME as listed on the account slip. Be sure to distribute all the account slips beforehand. LOGIN PROCEDURES: a) FIRST LOGIN: Logging into the local PC computer: a) Press Control-Alt-Delete to bring up the "Log On to Windows" window: b) User name: (Enter student's UCSD username -- e.g. "wcheung") c) Password: (Enter student's password - up to the first 8 characters) d) Log on to: AD b) SECOND LOGIN: Logging into the "Class Resources" folder: -> Look on the Desktop -> Open the "Class Resources" folder -> Double-click and open either the "Connect to ma20f-ma20f.pub PUBLIC files on insci14" icon or the "ma20f-ma20f.pub PUBLIC files on insci14" icon. -> It will bring up a login window to "Connect to insci14-a" Fill in the fields like this: User name: ma21dxx (the student's OWN ma20fxx CLASS ACCOUNT) Password: a0123456 (the student's OWN Student PID number - but only up to the first 8 characters) If successful, a new window "ma20f.pub on ACS Samba Server (insci14-a)" will appear with several icons. -> Click on the "Folders" icon in the button bar on the TOP of this new window. This will reveal the left-side panel with the correct "ma20f.pub" folder already pre-selected and highlighted in the list. -> RIGHT-CLICK on the highlighted "ma20f.pub" folder -> Choose the "Map Network Drive..." option -> For the "Drive:" field, pick "P:" from the list. (The "Folder:" field should already be appropriately filled in and grayed out.) -> Click the "Finish" button. -> (OPTIONAL) To verify this worked correctly, open "My Computer" on the Desktop, you should see a "ma21d.pub on 'ACS Samba Server (insci14-a)'" icon under the "Network Drives" section near the bottom. -> Launch MATLAB -> At the MATLAB >> prompt, type: addpath p:\matlab addpath h:\ Proceed with MATLAB assignment. (You may get "Warning: Change notification ..." warning errors after adding H:\. Ignore that. However, if you instead get a "Warning: Directory access failure" error, that means the student didn't do steps 1-3 correctly). Please note that the above steps must be REPEATED each time the student logons to the Windows XP PCs to work on MATH 20F.
