Department Policies   >   Proctoring, Exams, and Old Coursework

Proctoring and class conflicts. At some point, you may be asked to proctor an exam during a time when you have a class of your own. The official policy is this: classes technically take priority over proctoring exams. However, if your professor needs you to proctor and you are unable to for some reason, it's your responsibility to find someone else to do it. If you can't, contact the Head TA (well in advance).

Exams. Most exams policies are individual to the professor. The university has a pretty comprehensive policy for dealing with cheating on exams (see here for more). Also, for a suggested policy on dealing with returning exams and regrades, see here.

Old Coursework (including exams). When the quarter is over, you will be left with a ton of stuff students never picked up from you, including the final exams. Here's the policy about this: you must keep the final exams for one quarter following the course (this does not include the summer, i.e., final exams from the spring quarter must be kept until the end of the subsequent fall quarter). I recommend labelling them well and putting them in a file cabinet in your office somewhere: students will likely want to come by and have a look. Midterms, quizzes, homeworks, and Matlab assignments can all be discarded when the course is done, i.e., when the final grades have been submitted.
