Alireza Salehi Golsefidy
Associate Professor of Mathematics
Ph.D. Mathematics, Yale University, 2006
B.S. Mathematics, Sharif University of Technology, Tehran, Iran, 2000
Dr. Salehi Golsefidy received his Ph.D. in 2006 from Yale University under the direction of Fields Medalist Gregory Margulis. He subsequently spent 3 years as a Veblen research instructor, sharing his time between Princeton University and the Institute for Advanced Study. In 2009, he was appointed as an Assistant Professor at Princeton University. Dr. Salehi Golsefidy's main area of research is the theory of discrete subgroups of Lie groups where he has achieved outstanding results. As an instructor and later as Assistant Professor at Princeton University, Salehi Golsefidy taught a number of courses, including multi-variable Calculus and Linear Algebra. He also led two junior seminars at Princeton in which the students do independent reading assignments and then present their findings in weekly meetings. As an academic advisor and placement officer at Princeton, Dr. Salehi Golsefidy mentored female students to help them realize their full potential in Science and Mathematics. The addition of Dr. Salehi Golsefidy to the Department of Mathematics has substantially strengthened the Department?s Algebra group, and also broadened and complement the Department?s expertise in neighboring areas.
