Biography

Jiangfen Lin received his Ph.D. in mathematics from University of California, Los Angeles in 2016. Prior to the employment at UCSD, he was a C.L.E. Moore instructor at the Massachusetts Institute of Technology, where he was awarded the NSF research grant in mathematics and emerged as an active mathematician in the area of low dimensional topology and gauge theory. Low dimensional topology is an important area of modern mathematics that studies the geometric shapes of objects in low dimensions, and gauge theory uses partial differential equations arising from Yang-Mills theory and Sieberg-Witten theory to study these objects. Lin will open up this area of 3 and 4 dimensional gauge theory at UC San Diego.
