While there may not be as many places to shop as New York, San Diego still has quite a few places for one to satisfy their need to buy things, or just browse. The main places to go shopping have been broken down into two categories: Malls and Outlet Centers. In downtown San Diego, there are many smaller shops, too numerous to list here.
Fashion Valley and Mission Valley malls are situated very close to each other in the heart of Mission Valley off of Interstate 8, while Horton Plaza sits downtown on 4th Avenue in the middle of the famous Gaslamp district.
For the most part, all the malls have the same basic stores, with Horton Plaza and Fashion Valley being slightly more upscale. All the above malls have movie theatres either inside or nearby for your viewing pleasure.
San Diego also has two great factory outlet malls, where brand names have outlet stores offering the same product at reduced rates. One is located in Carlsbad and another in San Ysidro.
Carlsbad, in north San Diego county, is certainly much nicer than San Ysidro, but the prices are possibly even lower in San Ysidro, since the San Ysidro location is closer to the Mexican border.
