This is the information page for my reading group on Tropical Geometry, as part of the UCSD RTG Directed Reading Program.

Goals of the reading group

The main goal of the program will be to understand tropical plane curves. Time (and interest) permitting, we will examine properties of ``troplanar'' graphs (in the sense of Morrison), divisors on graphs, tropical intersection theory, etc. The program will develop according to the interests and backgrounds of the students involved.

Possible References (currently incomplete)

None of them have everything I want, but all of them have something I want. So we will probably bounce through some of the following articles.
General Theory:

Tropical geometry by Morrison.
Brief introduction to tropical geometry by Brugalle, Itenberg, Mikhalkin, and Shaw.
Tropical mathematics by Speyer and Sturmfels.
Tropical algebraic geometry by Gathmann.

Plane Curves:

Tropical hyperelliptic curves in the plane by Morrison.
Tropically planar graphs by Coles, Dutta, Jiang, Morrison, and Scharf.

Enumerative Theory:

The numbers of tropical plane curves through points in general position by Gathmann and Markwig.
Bitangents of tropical plane quartic curves by Baker, Len, Morrison, Pflueger, and Ren.

Divisors on Graphs:

Specialization of linear systems from curves to graphs by Baker.
Riemann-Roch and Abel-Jacobi theory on a finite graph by Baker and Norine.
