Overview
A conference on noncommutative algebra will be held on February 18-20,
2006 at the University of California, San Diego. The
conference will honor professor Lance W. Small on the occasion of his
65th birthday. At the meeting some of the world's leading
authorities will survey the current status of the field and point to
those directions which hold the greatest promise for future work.
The purpose of the meeting will be to discuss the current state of
noncommutative algebra and to suggest fruitful directions for future
work in this vital area. A review of where we are now, and
most especially, the experts' views of where these subjects are going
will be of particular interest to, and have an influence on, the work
of students and recent graduates in algebra, those who will produce the
results obtained in the coming decades.
The following is a list of topics which will undoubtedly be discussed:
Noetherian rings and their generalizations, representations
of rings, rings with polynomial identities, invariant theory,
enveloping algebras, group rings, rings of differential operators,
filtered and graded rings, Krull and Gelfand-Kirillov dimension, growth
of algebras, algebraic quantum groups, noncommutative geometry, nil
rings, the Kothe conjecture, homological properties of rings.
It should be noted that Professor Small has made influential
contributions in each of these areas.
Location
The conference will be hosted by Efim Zelmanov of the
UCSD Mathematics Department.
All talks will take place on the
UCSD campus (9500
Gilman drive La Jolla, CA 92093) at the Natural Sciences Building (NSB) in room 1205.
Here is a
campus map and
