Linda Nobel Laureate Meetings

  • The program in 2024 is a collaboration among the Office of the President, UC Investments, and the UC National Laboratories and will provide funding for up to 20 UC students, as well as nine postdoctoral scholars affiliated with the national laboratories, to attend the 2024 Lindau Nobel Laureate Meetings in Lindau, Germany. Please read the information below and submit nominations accordingly.

Rockefeller Postdoctoral Fellowship

2024 Seed Funding for Mobilities to Mexico Call

  • Alianza MX has reserved a seed fund of up to $50,000 USD per UC campus to fund short-term mobilities for UC students to Mexico in 2024. Proposals from UC faculty members and administrators are welcomed.

OIST Research Internship

  • A research internship at OIST provides students with experience working in a research environment under the direction of OIST faculty.   • The Fletcher Jones Fellowship Program, which is supported by gifts received from the Fletcher Jones Foundation of Los Angeles, offers one of the University's most prestigious and generously funded fellowships. The Office of the President has allotted UCSD one (1) Fletcher Jones Fellowship for each academic year.

Jean Fort Dissertation Prize

  • The Jean Fort Dissertation Prize, established in honor of UC San Diego's long-time Assistant Dean of Graduate Studies and Research, Jean Fort, is awarded annually to a Ph.D. recipient of unusual intellectual breadth whose doctoral research has met the highest standards of academic excellence and may make a significant contribution on an issue of humanitarian or public concern. This year's winner will receive a $1000 prize.

Schmidt Science Fellows Program

  • GEPA is accepting nominations for the Schmidt Science Fellows program, from which UC San Diego will nominate up to 7 applicants to represent the university. The Schmidt Science Fellows program aims to develop the next generation of science leaders to transcend disciplines, advance discovery, and solve the world’s most pressing problems. Schmidt Science Fellows are expected to be future leaders and should demonstrate a keen interest in harnessing interdisciplinarity and interaction with wider society to accelerate discovery to achieve global impact. Fellows will be supported by the program to undertake a full-time, postdoctoral study for at least one year in a world-leading laboratory in a field different from their existing area of expertise.

Friends of the International Center Fellowships

  • The Friends of the International Center (FIC) was a non-profit, all-volunteer organization founded in 1961 (dissolved September 2021) whose mission statement was to support international education, to foster friendship, understanding, and cooperation within the international community, and to create a meeting place on the UC San Diego campus for people who share these aims. The FIC generously established a graduate fellowship endowment fund to support their mission in perpetuity at UC San Diego. Up to 10 graduate fellowships of $2,000 each will be awarded for 2024-25.

Required Qualifications:

  • Some Engineering experience and or project course work using large data systems on SQL, Hadoop, etc.  
  • Proficiency using one or more programming or scripting language to work with data such as: Python, Perl, or C#. 
  • Some experience and or project course work performing data analysis and applying statistics working with tools such as: Excel, R, MATLAB, AMPL, or SAS. 
  • Some experience and or project course work with product and service telemetry systems. 
  • Some A/B Testing or experimentation (this can be from conducting real life science experiments, hypothesis testing in stats etc.) Not required but ideal.  
  • Some experience or course work applying basic ML to a type of data and or used algorithms to conduct experiments on data.

Guru Gobind Singh Fellowship

In 1988 the University of California received a bequest from the late Mr. Karam Singh Maughan to establish an endowment to support graduate fellowships, named for Guru Gobind Singh, the Sikh religious leader. Awards are intended for graduates of universities in a specific area of India and Pakistan (see map on Collab page) for the purpose of pursuing graduate study at the University of California.
