Midterm Exam and Solution

Course Description Radon measures, elements of Fourier analysis, and elements of distribution theory.
Prerequisites Math 140 ABC and Math 240 AB, or equivalent.
Textbook Gerald B. Folland, Real Analysis: Modern Techniques and Applications, 2nd edition, Wiley, 1999. We will cover part of Chapters 7 - 9.

Lectures 10:00 am - 10:50 am, Mondays, Wednesdays, and Fridays. (All lectures will be given online through Zoom.)

Homework Policies Homework is assigned, collected, and partially graded regularly. Each homework assingment is due at 12:00 noon of the due date.
  • Please turn in your homework by emailing the PDF of your typed or scanned homework solution to your TA. Pleaes make sure that you have your name and student ID number on the PDF.
  • Please do not submit your homework by taking a photo using a camera and emailing that to your TA, as a camera image is usally of low quality and large data.
  • In general, no late homework will be accepted unless a written verification of a valid excuse (such as hospitalization, family emergency, religious observance, court appearance, etc.) is provided. Help and accommodation will be provided in handling the homework issues related to the COVID-19 outbreak.

  • Exams There will be one midterm and one final exams. The final exam will be cumulative.
    • The midterm will be held in Week 5 of this quarter. The final exam will be combined with the graduate Real Analysis qualifying exam.
    • Each of the exams may be in a form of online close-book close-note exam, take-home exam, and online oral exam, or a combination of some of these forms. The class will be informed on the details of these exams once they are fixed.
    • In general, neither rescheduled nor make-up exams will be allowed unless a written verification of a valid excuse (such as hospitalization, family emergency, religious observance, court appearance, etc.) is provided.
    • Help and accommodation will be provided in handling any exam issues related to the COVID-19 outbreak.
    Grading The final course grade will be determined based on the homework and exams with the weights: homework - 30%, midterm exam - 30%, and final exam - 40%.
